Selecting a design option

Breaking down the pros & cons

When considering a design strategy, we always check in with our goals and desired outcomes. Are we meeting all the design objectives or just a few? Providing design solutions is really an analysis in trade-offs (most of the time).

While both these bathrooms explore a monochromatic color pallet, we took to different elements into consideration. What’s more important - storage space or square footage?

Option 1 - Smaller bathroom, more storage.

In this design strategy, a smaller shower gave us the opportunity to create custom, built-in linen shelving. This increased the storage capacity inside a room that was lacking closet real estate.

We introduced a simple graphic wall covering to compliment the matte black shower tiles. We also added brass accents at the faucet and light fixtures for an additional pop of fun.

Option 2 - Larger bathroom, minimal storage.

This larger shower gave us the opportunity to create an accent wall through the use of a graphic wall tile. A sliding door makes the shower appear seamless with the rest of the room.

To balance out the accent wall, the reaming wall surfaces explore a more restrained, minimal aesthetic. Matte black plumbing fixtures, hardware, accessories, and furniture help to create a sense of anchoring at the vanity.

I’d like to remark, this bathroom remodel started off with a bathtub instead of a shower. Would you change out your tub for a shower? Or is a bathtub a luxury you wouldn’t dare get rid of?
